about us

It starts with health

Neko was founded to answer a question: what would it look like to put health – not illness – at the heart of a 21st century healthcare system?

Since 2018, we've been engineering the solution – proprietary devices, real-time data science, and a clinical model built around the healthy, not just the sick.

Est. 2018 Stockholm, Sweden We began inventing new technologies for preventive health, including the Neko Spectrum (prototype pictured), which captures tissue-level signals in the microcirculation

The problem

Symptoms arrive too late

Modern healthcare is an extraordinary system, but it’s obliged to focus on crises. And by the time you’ve been triaged to a doctor, many conditions have escalated in seriousness.
The illnesses responsible for a lot of preventable suffering – cardiovascular disease, diabetes, certain cancers – are typically caught at the point of symptom, not at the point of signal. The system isn’t failing. It just wasn’t designed to respond earlier.

Healthcare today, in numbers

80%
of healthcare budgets spent on managing chronic disease
<1%
of healthcare budgets spent on prevention itself
~50%
of people suffering from cardiovascular disease go undiagnosed until they have a heart attack or stroke
99%
of melanoma sufferers survive if their cancer is caught early – but routine skin scans are rare

A reactive system extracts a real cost: from individuals, families, and society as a whole. Symptoms diminish lives. Treatment is expensive.

The world needs healthcare that can engage you while you’re well.

That’s what Neko is building.

vår historia och vår lösning

The oldest idea in healthcare

Prevention is one of the oldest ideas in medicine. But for most of history, the tools for a preventive healthcare system simply didn’t exist. Imaging was expensive. Data was siloed. And interpretation depended on clinicians who didn't have the time. That's changed. And in 2018, two people decided to act on it.
Daniel Ek, founder of Spotify, spent more than a decade rebuilding the relationship between music fans and songs they loved, creating something the music industry had never been able to provide. When he looked at healthcare, he saw a familiar scenario – and his next challenge.

Neko Health founders Hjalmar Nilsonne and Daniel Ek.

He approached Hjalmar Nilsonne. Hjalmar had grown up in a family of doctors and had spent his career building in other directions, applying his engineering mind to the energy transition. When they met, Daniel asked a provocative question:
“If there were no healthcare system, and we had to design one today, what would it look like?”
The answer was straightforward: a system built around the healthy, not just the sick. One that caught conditions early, collected health data continuously, and gave clinicians the time to actually talk.
They agreed on the vision. The harder question was how to build it.

“The greatest medicine of all is teaching people how not to need it.”

Building end-to-end healthcare

When Neko set out to build a preventive healthcare service, hardware, software, and healthcare settings were fragmented. So we built our own ecosystem – from scratch.

Health Scan
technology
Every Neko device is designed, engineered, and assembled in our Stockholm facility – where clinical researchers and engineers share the same floor. Proximity matters. It means a clinical insight can become a hardware iteration overnight, and every component is shaped by the people who use it and the patients it serves.
That facility has produced three proprietary devices – Derma, Spectrum, and Echo – validated with clinical studies to ensure the clinical precision that prevention demands. Together they create a single scan that captures tens of millions of data points across your skin, heart, blood, and circulation – and there's more in development.
The Neko Health Scan

locations

Your time is valuable. So is your health.

Every Neko location has been designed as a single, integrated environment, with scanning, analysis, and consultation all under one roof. That means that every second in a Neko scan room is productive. There’s no waiting for blood results as we assess every biomarker on-site, and your clinician is ready when you are. Everything is considered, so that nothing is wasted – and an extraordinary amount can be learned in just 60 minutes.
In 2026, we began testing a second-generation Neko scan room: a modular platform engineered to capture more signals, across more of the body, than any version before.
klinisk standard

More than half of Neko is clinical

Medicine done well requires time.
And people who care.
Across our team of more than 1000 doctors, researchers, and engineers, over half work in a clinical role: from the doctors who review your results to the researchers who refine what we measure. Our clinicians typically see around nine members a day, not the 30+ appointments that modern healthcare demands.

“Understanding your health today gives you the opportunity to shape your future. Helping people gain that knowledge is what makes this work so rewarding.”

The future of health

The vision behind Neko has always been bigger than a scan. Every person who understands their health early is one less late-stage diagnosis within a system that is already at capacity.
We didn't set out to compete against the existing healthcare system. But, if we're successful, we might just make it more sustainable. That takes creativity, engineering, and time. And the data we're already collecting shows us it's possible.
